A Month of Thanksgivings: November Table Graces

Carol Guenther, our Stewardship Coordinator, found these special Table Graces for November. They are based on the Earth Charter Principle, a universal declaration promulgated in the year 2000, which outlines 16 fundamental ethical principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in the 21st century. The Earth Charter seeks to inspire in all people a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the whole human family, the greater community of life, and future generations. It is a vision of hope and a call to action.

Each day's meal prayer begins and ends in the same way and includes a different intention for the different days of the week.

November Table Graces

We and all we eat are made from stardust. Look closely and see that the patterns within our food are also patterns of the stars, of the universe. As we recognize our interconnectedness, we express gratitude for our abundance, Blessed are we! To the Holy One, we offer our thanks.

Sunday: Lead us to respect, through our thoughts, words, and actions,
the Earth's infinite life-forms, we pray. God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

Monday: Endow us with a deeper reference for the wisdom and dignity of
our elders, we pray. God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

Tuesday: Empower us to do our part in building peaceful and just societies,
we pray. God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

Wednesday: Lavish us with generous spirits to pass The Great Story to
future generations, we pray. God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

Thursday: Fill us with grateful hearts, that we might generously share our
abundance with those less fortunate, we pray. God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

Friday: Call us to more stillness, more quiet moments in our daily lives, we pray.
God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

Saturday: Attune us to the inner light and beauty of all Your stardust creatures,
we pray. God of the Universe, hear our prayer.

As our Earth moves further away from the life-giving Sun, our daylight shortens and darkness lengthens. Despite the shift of energy, we have nutritious foods before us. how grateful we are to receive these blessings of life. Amen.
