“Markers and Blessings,” Preschool – 3rd Grade

A child’s faith journey is filled with times along the way where we recognize and bless the moment and the child, create open spaces for loving conversation across generations, and provide resources and encouragement for families as we walk together in the promises of baptism. We spend time together marking and blessing the following times in our child’s faith formation:

Baptism: Contact a pastor for questions and scheduling baptism.

Pre-K + parents:  FIRST COMMUNION or BLESSING – Fall 2017, 9:45 a.m.  Exploring what it means to take communion or receive a blessing during worship service. What do we believe about Communion? (Please download a description here.)  A special communion instruction for kids in preschool and early elementary is planned.   A pastor leads the discussion and bread-baking is part of the children’s experience.

1st grade + parents:   THE LORD’S PRAYER – February 25, 2018, 9:45 a.m. – Growing in relationship with God through prayer.  This is a time for your child to learn and understand one of the main prayers St. Mark’s prays during every worship service. Create a prayer cube to practice praying the way Jesus taught us.

3rd grade + parents:  RECEIVING A BIBLE AND EXPLORING THE BIBLE TOGETHER – Palm Sunday, March 25, 2018. Bible’s presented to each child by a care giver during the 9:45 Worship Service. Then celebrating and exploring during an 11:00 Learning Event – Learning to navigate your new Spark NRSV Bible and sharing stories of faith.
