Ministries

The St. Mark’s community is organized in seven ministry areas that serve as umbrellas for all aspects of St. Mark’s worship, activities, groups, and outreach.  Each ministry area is represented by a liaison on the Church Council.

Congregational Care

Congregational Care takes St. Paul’s admonition to heart when he says: “Love one another with mutual affection … Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.” Romans 12.10-13. St. Mark’s is committed to the spiritual and physical well being of the people of its congregation. We want people to experience grace through one another.  Ministries include prayer shawls, quilts, Stephen Ministry, Gay-Straight Alliance, Women of St. Mark’s, Parish Nursing and much more.  Council Liaison-Pat Geary

Outreach

The Outreach Ministry Team leads us in the ministry of extending the hospitality of Christ by inviting, welcoming, and walking with others in their journey of faith. This team also coordinates the work of communicating the mission of our congregation to newcomers and to the community at large.  Council Liaison-Barb Haueisen

Peace and Justice

The Peace & Justice Ministry Team equips, motivates and supports the members of St. Mark’s in extending expressions of Christian compassion to the poor and oppressed and to persons in need. We look out to Tacoma and the world to identify social injustice and need; we connect with social service agencies and other groups who are addressing these challenges; we provide opportunities for St. Mark’s community to learn about these issues and to get involved.  Council Liaison-Justin Oellrich

Stewardship

The Stewardship Ministry Team at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by the Narrows encompasses education, finances, endowment, memorials, care of our property and Care of Creation. It is in these areas that you can be faithful and responsible for what God has entrusted to you.  Council Liaison-Everett Holum

Worship and Music

The Worship and Music team assists with worship planning and coordinating the many music groups at St. Mark’s.  Worship of God through music has been a powerful force in our Lutheran heritage and in our spiritual life at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by the Narrows. We invite you and members of your family to become active in a singing, handbell or drama group as we join our efforts to praise God.  It is by being active in the smaller groups of the church that friendships are formed. In our music groups, we seek to be in ministry to our congregation and to the members of the music groups and their families. Childcare is available as needed.  Council Liaison-Tony Daniels
