Stewardship

The Stewardship Ministry Team at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by the Narrows encompasses holistic education about Christian Stewardship; management of our financial gifts, including our General Mission Fund, our Grace Upon Grace Building Fund, our Endowment Fund and Memorials; care of our property; and care of Creation.

As we reflect upon God’s word:  “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” (Luke 12:48),  we invite all members to a life-long commitment to faithful stewardship. We are blessed in so many ways at St. Mark’s and we demonstrate our gratitude through responsible and joyful living

Directory of Skills and Talents

St. Mark’s is made up of a diverse and very talented group of Christians! From plumbers to poets, babysitters to ballet teachers, our members have a variety of professional skills, natural talents and interesting hobbies based in specific areas of expertise. But sometimes, we are our own best kept secret and few in the congregation know the extent of our collective potential. We offer this evolving Directory of Skills and Talents to help us all appreciate the many God-given gifts within our members and to take advantage of those skills and talents as appropriate

Stewardship Opportunities

The Mission of the Stewardship Education Team is to help us as God’s people grow in our relationship with Jesus through the responsible use of the time, talents, and finances that God has entrusted to us.

We propose to accomplish this goal through on-going, year-round education for all ages in our congregation and through a variety of programs.  We encourage each of us to share the story of our faith journey often and joyfully.  This team is working to provide ways for all of us to be disciples of Jesus. We meet at 6:30 p.m. on the Second Tuesday of the month in the Church Library.

The Finance Team is responsible for overseeing the financial well-being of the congregation which includes the General Mission Fund, which funds our operating budget and our Grace Upon Grace building fund which covers the mortgage on our new facility. The Finance Team meets regularly and works closely with the Church Council and the Stewardship Education team.

Endowment, Memorial, & Scholarship Fund Team – other arms of the Stewardship Ministry, seeks to inform us about wills and estate planning as well as the status and use of our endowment fund at St. Mark’s, and to manage and disburse monies received as memorial and scholarship gifts.

Property Care Team – helps us to be good stewards of all the physical properties that have been entrusted to us. This includes regular maintenance and improvements to the building and grounds.  You can join them on a weekly basis or choose a special task and do it on your own time schedule.  Currently there is a Thursday morning crew which gathers every week to do a variety of tasks, both indoors and out. They also enjoy good fellowship around the coffee pot in the kitchen!  There are also quarterly clean up days and other special projects scheduled as needed.  If you can’t share your maintenance and cleaning skills every week, maybe you can help out a couple of days a year using a building skill of your choice.

Care of Creation Team – The purpose of this ministry team is to provide leadership to the St. Mark’s family in fostering and modeling environmental stewardship within the church community as well as within the broader community.  We sponsor seasonal hikes and other education activities at the Church and welcome new members and ideas for new initiatives.
