St. Mark’s Preschool Staff 2017-2018
Anne Zimmerman, Director and 3/4s Teacher
I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to Tacoma in 1995. I have a MEd in School Counseling from the University of Puget Sound. My two girls, ages four and six, both attend(ed) St. Mark’s Preschool. My husband and I enjoy being outdoors, and taking our family on adventures throughout this beautiful area. We have been members at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for seven years. I always look forward to helping prepare the kiddos at St. Mark’s to be successful in elementary school and encouraging them to find excitement in learning, creating, and discovering; and, I truly enjoy working with all of the families that step through our doors.
Erika Anderson, 2/3s Teacher
I am married and mother of two boys, ages 8 and 5. I am originally from Alaska and have lived in Washington for over 15 years. I earned a degree from Pacific Lutheran University and have worked with children’s programs at St. Mark’s since 2010. It is a joy for me to witness children learning and growing through play. I love to be outdoors, and enjoy incorporating nature into our day as often as possible. I am blessed to work with children and I am certain I learn as much from them as they do from me!
Katie Jones, 2/3s Teacher
I am married with two children; my daughter is 11 and my son is 8. I grew up in Federal Way, Washington and moved to University Place in 2006. I have a bachelor’s degree from University of Arizona and a master’s degree from Seattle University. I have worked with children’s programs at St. Mark’s since 2008. When my family and I have free time, we enjoy being outdoors with our two dogs. We especially love spending time on the salt water fishing, clamming, shrimping and crabbing! I’m looking forward to this coming school year and getting to know all the kids that will be in class with Miss Erika and me!
Jessica Beecher, 3/4s Teacher
I am married with four children, who have all attended St. Mark’s Preschool. My favorite thing in life is to spend time outdoors with my family. I love to hike, mountain bike and sometimes I just enjoy aimlessly wandering. I have been teaching at St. Mark’s Preschool for eight years. I absolutely love the fact that kids this age have so much wonder and curiosity about the world around them which I hope to help them retain. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help instill the values of empathy and love towards one another and to be good stewards of this earth we all share. I am so excited to get to know all my new students and their families!
Shana Emry, 3/4s Teacher
I grew up in Sumner and now enjoy living in North Tacoma with my family and black lab. During the summer, we spend a lot of time camping and swimming. I love to read in my down time. I have two daughters in elementary school and was fortunate to have my youngest attend St. Mark’s Preschool. This will be my third year teaching at St. Mark’s. It is wonderful to be a part of the staff at such a great school. I look forward to seeing your children grow, learn, and play.
Anna Hausler, PreK Teacher
I have been blessed to be born and raised in the PNW. Growing up, I attended a Lutheran grade school where I found my love for teaching at a young age. I applied this career choice by graduating college with my Associates in Early Childhood Education in 2015. This will be my first year at Saint Mark’s, and I am excited to be alongside of their supportive staff! I also work at a private grade school in Seattle and teach their Friday Preschool class. I love to incorporate interactive circle times, songs, books and kindergarten readiness skills into the school day. In my free time I enjoy hiking, cooking and spending time with my husband and family. I look forward to a school year filled with God’s love
Brittany Currey, PreK Teacher
I grew up on Steele Lake in Federal Way and currently live on forested land in Vaughn Washington. I share the land with two beautiful huskies. I am pregnant with my first child, a boy named Orion ~ he is due in December. I am very excited for this new adventure into motherhood!
I have a degree from TCC in Health Information Technology. I have a passion for learning and I believe that by teaching about the many things that I love, it allows me to be fully present in the classroom with our students. I enjoy invoking natural learning which comes from life experiences and curiosities. I am elated to get to know each of our preschoolers individually so I can support their unique personalities, learning styles, and passions. I am also looking forward to building relationships with the families of our preschoolers.
Kelsey Topolski, PreK Teacher
Raised in the Tacoma area, but living away the last few years, my husband, almost one-year-old son, and I are overjoyed to be rejoining our families in our hometown. After meeting in high school and marrying after college, we moved to South Korea to teach English for a year. Following Seoul, we moved to DC where we lived the last three years and I worked as a toddler teacher. I love getting to help shape a child’s attitude toward learning and encouraging them as they begin to discover God’s creation and ask thoughtful questions. A few of my favorite things are bonding over board games, cappuccinos at cute cafes, and alliteration. I’m thrilled to be joining the St. Mark’s team and can’t wait to meet our students and their families!
