St. Mark’s Preschool Staff 2016-2017
Anne Zimmerman, Director and 3/4s Teacher
I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to Tacoma in 1995 to attend the University of Puget Sound. I worked as an Elementary School Counselor for ten years before making the switch to teaching preschool so that I could work with children at this very important developmental stage. My oldest daughter will be starting Kindergarten this year, and Callie will be in the 3/4s class with me. My husband and I enjoy running and golfing and taking our family on adventures throughout this beautiful area. We have been members of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for six years and this will be my second year on staff at St. Mark’s Preschool. I am looking forward to another exciting year of learning, growing, and discovering!
Erika Anderson, 2/3s Teacher
I am married and a mother of two boys, ages 4 and 7. I was born and raised in Alaska and have lived in Washington for over 15 years. I graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and have worked with children’s programs at St. Mark’s Church for six years. I love to witness children learning and growing through play. I enjoy being outdoors, and incorporating nature into our day as often as possible. I am blessed to work with children and I am certain I learn as much from them as they do from me!
Katie Jones, 2/3s Teacher
I am married with two children, my daughter is 10 and my son is 7. I grew up in Federal Way, Washington and moved to University Place in 2006. I have a Bachelor’s degree from University of Arizona and a Master’s degree from Seattle University. I have worked with children’s programs at St. Mark’s Church for eight years. When my family and I have free time we enjoy being outdoors with our dog. We especially love spending time on the salt water: fishing, clamming, shrimping and crabbing! I’m looking forward to this coming school year and getting to know all the kids that will be in class with Miss Erika and me!
Jessica Beecher, Pre-K Teacher
I am married and have four children, who have all attended St. Mark’s Preschool. I enjoy being outdoors and taking pictures of the beauty that surrounds us. This will be my sixth year teaching at St. Mark’s Preschool, and I have grown to love getting to know and work with all of these beautiful children of God. I am looking forward to working with this particular group of children, as I have been teaching many of them since they entered St. Mark’s in the 2/3s class.
Karen Chow Miller, PreK Teacher
My family moved to Tacoma in 2008 and we enrolled my oldest child in St. Mark’s Preschool, immediately falling in love with the place. I previously taught Art for three years at an elementary school in NYC after earning my teaching degree at Queens College. Now I’m excited to be able to use my skills and passion at St. Mark’s; this will be my sixth year on the staff. I believe St. Mark’s provides a solid foundation of skills, confidence, creativity, and love of learning for students to be successful in their lives.
Shana Emry, 3/4s Teacher
I grew up in Sumner and have a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Washington University. In 2005, I moved to North Tacoma with my husband. During the summer we spend a lot of time camping and I love to read whenever I get the chance. We have two daughters, ages 7 and 5. Our youngest attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Preschool and will be joining her sister at Downing Elementary this year as she enters Kindergarten. I am very happy to be a part of the staff at such a great school. I look forward to seeing your children grow, learn, and play.
