Fair Trade Team
Fairly traded coffee, tea, and chocolate are available for purchase the first Sunday of each month. Fair Trade Bazaars usually take place in spring and winter, where other items from all over the world may be purchased.

Peace Community Center
Meals: Twice a year members prepare and serve a meal.
Tutoring: Members are involved with tutoring local students each week.

Habitat for Humanity
St. Mark’s builds as a group in our local community and we travel to other countries through the Habitat Global Village Program.

Individuals provide Christmas gifts and food to low-income families in our area.

Chase the Chill
In the fall and winter months we deliver hats, scarves and gloves to the various shelters around Tacoma.
There is a stockpile of yarn for those who are interested in knitting or crocheting for this project.

Mexico Mission (High School Age & Adults)
Each year in the month of June, an intergenerational group travels to Mexico to support the work of local Mexican congregations seeking to share the love of Christ with their neighbors. This involves building houses for families, sharing food with the hungry, and daily activities for children, helping with the renovation of facilities, and serving in other ways.

Advocacy Team
In addition to the many “direct services” ministries of the congregation, the Advocacy Team supports efforts create policies that foster justice and peace. Efforts focus on hunger, housing insecurity, immigrants and refugees, and care of creation.

Quilters of St. Mark’s
All adults welcome. Sewing and no-sew activities available; sewing machines available during the meeting or bring your own. Group meets weekly, Monday from 9 a.m.-noon, using the Tacoma Public Schools district calendar for holidays and summer hiatus. Sewing projects are also available to take home.

Bread for the World
BFW is an all ages collective of Christian voices urging our nation’s leaders to end hunger at home and abroad. As a congregation, we participate in an annual Offering of Letters and seek to educate ourselves on issues of hunger.

Empowering Life (Adults)
This faith-based non-profit works to support the incarcerated women at Washington Corrections Center in Purdy and at Mission Creek Center for Women in Belfair. St. Mark’s members have the opportunity to worship with the women of WCCW with prior approval.

Nativity House
St. Mark’s serves a midday meal every 2nd and 4th Saturday to around 200 people at this drop-in day shelter in Tacoma. Families serve together and make a difference in the lives of others.

DeLong Programs
Backpack Program: Donate specified foods to go home each weekend with homeless students from DeLong Elementary who are at-risk for hunger OR pack food each Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at St. Mark’s.
Lunch Buddies: Eat and enjoy conversation with students who are in need of extra adult attention and care.

Hunger Walk & Run
Join the St. Mark’s team to raise funds and support the work of the Emergency Food Network. This annual event is held in May at Fort Steilacoom Park.

Community Event Liaisons
Be the representative contact for St. Mark’s with specific nonprofit and community organizations, assume awareness through notice in The Bridge, Parish Life, and Sunday morning announcements. Represent a group you already support or sign up for one that currently needs a representative. Contact the church office if you are interested.

Essentials for Homeless Youth
Join us to help homeless youth. We are pitching in to help Shared Housing Services (SHS) with their Youth Host Home Program, created to help kids who have nowhere else to go as a result of abuse or displacement. Join us to do write-ups for The Bridge publication to request donations of the congregation, sort and deliver these donations to SHS in Tacoma or find new ways to help. Efforts continue year round including the creation of Welcome Packs, Winter Needs donations and general hygiene supplies.
